Why are my standings/seeds wrong

Overview

If your public-facing standings are showing teams in the wrong order, the most likely cause is that tiebreaker rules were not configured before the event started — or the rules are not configured in the order you intended.

This article explains how to identify where your tiebreaker rules are set, how to correct them, and how to force Playbook to recalculate standings so the correct order is reflected on the front end.

To fix tiebreakers at the event level: Event Management → Events → Event Name → Tiebreakers tab

To check global tiebreaker rules: Global Settings → Scheduler Config → Tiebreakers

How Playbook Applies Tiebreaker Rules

Playbook checks for tiebreaker rules in this order:

1. Event-level tiebreakers — configured inside the individual event on the Tiebreakers tab. These take priority.
2. Global tiebreakers — configured in Global Settings under Scheduler Config. These are used as a fallback when no event-level rules are set.

If neither location has tiebreaker rules configured, Playbook cannot resolve ties, and standings may display in the wrong order.

Step 1 — Check and Correct Your Tiebreaker Rules

Option A: Set Tiebreakers at the Event Level

Use this option if this event requires tiebreaker rules that are different from your global defaults.

1. Navigate to Event Management → Events.
2. Locate your event and click its name to open it.
3. Select the Tiebreakers tab from the left-side navigation.
4. Review the Pool Tiebreakers and Division Tiebreakers sections.
5. Add or reorder your tiebreaker rules so they reflect the correct priority.
6. Save your changes before leaving the tab.

Option B: Check Your Global Tiebreaker Rules

Use this option if your event's Tiebreakers tab is blank and you are relying on global defaults.

1. Navigate to Global Settings.
2. Click into Scheduler Config.
3. Scroll down to the Tiebreakers section.
4. Select your Sport from the dropdown.

5. Review the rules listed.

6. A green toggle means that tiebreaker rule is active and will be applied.

7. A red toggle means that rule is inactive and will not be applied.
8. Verify that the rules are listed in the correct priority order. The top rule is evaluated first, and each subsequent rule is only applied if the tie has not been resolved by the one above it.
9. Reorder or toggle rules as needed, then save your changes.

Step 2 — Force Standings to Recalculate

After correcting your tiebreaker rules, Playbook will not automatically recalculate standings for games that have already been finalized. You must un-finalize and re-finalize each game to trigger the recalculation.

1. Navigate to Event Management → Events.
2. Locate your event and click the green SC button (Score Entry).
3. For every finalized game, uncheck the Final button to un-finalize the game.
4. Click Save.
5. Go back through each game and re-check the Final button for all games.
6. Click Save.

Playbook will now recalculate standings using the updated tiebreaker rules. Your standings on the public-facing schedule page should reflect the correct team order.

Step 3 — Re-Advance Brackets (If Applicable)

If you had already advanced teams into bracket play before correcting the tiebreakers, you will need to re-advance teams after standings are updated.

Verify that standings are correct first, then re-seed and advance teams through your bracket as needed.

Best Practices

• Set tiebreakers before your event starts. This is the most reliable way to avoid this issue entirely. Tiebreaker rules should be part of your pre-event setup checklist.
• Verify both locations. Even if you don't set event-level tiebreakers, confirm that your global rules for the sport are configured correctly and in the right order.
• Rule order matters. The top rule is always applied first. If head-to-head is listed above run differential, head-to-head will always be checked before run differential is ever considered.
• Green means active, red means inactive. When reviewing global tiebreakers, only toggled-on (green) rules will be applied.
• Do not advance brackets until standings are verified. If standings are wrong, bracket seeding will be wrong. Always confirm standings are correct before advancing teams.

Common Issues

"Standings look correct in the back end but are wrong on the public page." The games have likely been finalized under the old tiebreaker rules. Follow Step 2 above to un-finalize and re-finalize all games to force a recalculation.

"I updated tiebreakers but nothing changed." Tiebreaker rule changes do not retroactively recalculate finalized games. You must un-finalize and re-finalize all affected games after making changes.

"My Tiebreakers tab is blank — does that mean there are no tiebreakers?" Not necessarily. If the event-level Tiebreakers tab is blank, Playbook falls back to your global rules. Check Global Settings → Scheduler Config → Tiebreakers to see what is configured there for your sport.

"I fixed the tiebreakers but my brackets are already seeded wrong." Once standings are corrected and recalculated, you will need to manually re-advance or re-seed teams in the bracket. Brackets do not automatically update after standings change.

"Teams with the same record are still showing in the wrong order." Confirm that the tiebreaker rule you expect to apply is toggled on (green) and is listed in the correct position in the priority order. Also confirm that the games are finalized — unfinalized games do not contribute to tiebreaker calculations.
